Thanks and backstory and let’s talk
Thank you SO MUCH for your support of this newsletter.
Here’s the backstory: for years, I have been nursing a fair amount of resentment about the fact that so many good people who chose to pursue community and art and friendship and weirdness and vulnerability and generosity and craft over, let’s say, being prudent and careful and self-protective and, oh, making a bunch of goddamn money, were getting more and more anxious about getting old — seriously, it was painful to hear and see these bright shiny tender people just wracked with fear — so I would have probably started this Substack even if there were no paid subscriptions possible, but I FOR SURE would not be able to keep it going for free for long: life is busy, and we all have so many commitments, and it would be hard to justify (to my family, to myself, and to my employer, who is quite unaware of this but will necessarily be getting less of my early mornings and late nights) spending so much time on this project without the obligation I now have to you. I hope to honor that obligation by being genuinely of use to you, so let’s talk if I’m not.
But let’s talk, too, if I am?
Like, let’s talk!
